About Tirupur

Tirupur is renowned for its flourishing textile industry. Approximately 90% of the cotton garments produced here are shipped to various international markets. Additionally, it serves as a bustling commercial centre, ideal for shoppers. It also boasts several notable temples, which merit a visit. Tourists can enjoy the serene landscapes of nearby hill stations such as Mettupalayam and Podanur.

The 10,000 garment manufacturing units are the backbone of the city’s economy. Due to high exports from brands like Nike, Adidas, and H&M, the city is also known as the “Dollar City”. 

The name of Tirupur comes from the mythology, where Thiruppu means return and oor means place. The city is culturally diverse, with migrant workers from Africa, Sudan, and Nigeria.

It is home to many tourist attractions, including the temples, historical and spiritual sites, wildlife, shopping, and natural lakes.

Situated in a tropical zone, Tirupur experiences temperatures ranging from 23 °C to 34 °C. In April and May, residents often face intense heat.

Tirupur Kumaran Memorial Statue: Built in honour of Kumaran, a brave young man who resisted British rule and gave his life for India’s freedom.

Noyyal River: Covering an expansive area of 34,000 sq km, this small stream originates from the Vellingiri Hills & joins the mighty Cauvery River.

Avinashiappar Temple: Located in Avinashi village near Tirupur, this stunning temple dedicated to Lord Shiva showcases the architectural genius of the Chola builders.

Anamalai Tiger Reserve: It’s situated in the Western Ghats and is home to animals like tigers, gaur, and various birds. 

Khaderpet Flea Market: It is the textile hub, situated opposite the railway station, and is famous for high-quality surplus garments. 

Thirumoorthy Waterfalls: It’s a cool place for photography and nature views, with a waterfall, dam, and temple. Enjoy the lush greenery and ice-chilled water falling down the hill.

Additional attractions include Thirumoorthy Hills, Uthukuli Murugan Temple, Sugrieeshwar Temple, Mettupari, and Amaravathi dam - all worth visiting.

Best Time to Visit Tirupur

The peak time to visit Tirpur is December to February. It is considered ideal weather for sightseeing and tour activities. The weather is pleasant, cool and comfortable. Moreover, rainfall is minimal, and humidity is low. 

Summers in Tirupur are the hottest from April to June. The temperatures reach 40-45 degrees Celsius. Better to avoid travelling to Tirupur during the time of the year.

The monsoon season in Tirupur runs from June to November. The city receives rainfall from both the southwest and the Northeast monsoons. The landscape is at its best for photography and lush views, especially in October.
