This bygone temple is located in the Tiruvallur district, which is 98 km from Chennai. This is the place where Muruga tied the knot to his lover Valli. The 365 steps lead to the threshold of the temple, and these steps are considered to be very divine. There are also separate shrines for Goddess Durga, Lord Vishnu and Lord Ganesh.
The Saga Behind the Temple:
After the crucial war with the demon, Muruga returned to this sthala to cool down his emotional vibe. There is also another legend that says lord Muruga disguised himself as a village boy to draw the attention of the young beauty Valli. But she didn't heed him, so with the help of his brother Ganesha, Muruga won the heart of Valli, and both ended in wedlock at Tiruttani hills.
Speciality:
The unique feature in this temple is that instead of a peacock, there is an elephant before the sanctum sanctorum, which is believed to have been given by Lord Indra as dowry to his daughter Deivanai. Another atypical aspect of this temple is that Lord Muruga is without his weapon Vel, to represent his calm state.
