Overview of Wildlife in Assam

The North East Indian state of Assam, which has been considered as one of the most biologically diverse parts of South Asia due in part to the fertile floodplains created by the Brahmaputra River, contains a wide variety of habitats.

The mixture of grasslands, wetlands, and rainforests in Assam is significant for the number and variety of wildlife they support. Because of this incredible biodiversity, Assam is regarded as a global conservation hotspot.

Protected locations, such as Kaziranga and Manas National Parks, are among the world's most well-known parks that provide critical habitat for endangered species and help maintain ecological balance.

Famous Wildlife of Assam

The One-Horned Rhino is one of the most famous species in Assam, with its rich population in Kaziranga National Park and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. Other prominent species are Asian Elephant, Bengal Tiger, Wild Water Buffalo, and Swamp Deer.

Additionally, the state is home to unique animal species such as the Golden Langur, Hoolock Gibbon, and Pygmy Hog. The state of Assam is also a haven for bird watchers, and many globally sought-after bird species can be found here, including the Bengal Florican and the White-Winged Wood Duck.
