The trek moves through shola forest, open meadows, plantation patches and high-altitude wilderness before reaching Mukurthi Hut.

This trail is suitable for trekkers looking for a longer and more demanding forest route. The area is known for wildlife presence, including tiger, leopard, sambar deer, Indian gaur, Nilgiri langur, wild boar, wild dogs, barking deer and porcupine. Start of Trek

Shola Forest and Meadow Trail
Continue through thick shola forest, plantation patches, rolling meadows and high-altitude Nilgiri terrain. Trekkers can experience fresh mountain air, forest sounds, scenic views and possible wildlife signs along the route.

Reach Mukurthi Hut
Arrive at Mukurthi Hut, the main endpoint of the trail. Spend a short time resting and enjoying the remote forest setting as instructed by the guide.

Return Trek
Begin the return trek through the same route towards Parsons Valley Trekking Shed. Since this is a long and tough trail, maintain steady pace and avoid unnecessary delays.

Eligiblity for Parsons Valley Trekking Shed to Mukurthi Hut

This trek is suitable only for physically fit trekkers with good stamina. Participants should be able to walk around 20 km on natural forest terrain for a full day. Since the trail is officially marked as tough, it is better for trekkers who already have walking, hiking or trekking experience.

Not recommended for pregnant women, senior citizens with mobility issues, or people with heart conditions, breathing problems, severe knee pain, ankle injuries, vertigo or major back problems. Children should join only with adult supervision and required permission.

Trekkers should carry valid ID proof, water bottle, electrolyte or salt and lemon, high-calorie snacks, personal medication, rain jacket or poncho, sun protection, insect repellent and comfortable trekking shoes. Reach Ooty first, then travel towards Parsons Valley Trekking Shed, which is the reception point for the trek. Ooty Bus Stand is around 14 km from the trail reception point. Private vehicle or pre-arranged local transport is recommended because the trail starts from a forest-side location. Parking facility is available at the reception point.

By Rail

The nearest railway station is Ooty Railway Station, approximately 15 km from the reception point. From Ooty Railway Station, hire a taxi or arrange local transport to Parsons Valley Trekking Shed.

By Air
