The Cairn Hill Trail is a short and refreshing forest trek located on Avalanche Road near Ooty. The area is known for its old cypress plantations, shola forest patches, orchidarium, interpretation centre and canopy walk experience. The trail moves through a quiet forest environment where trekkers can enjoy fresh mountain air, bird calls, tall trees and panoramic valley views from the watchtower.
Cairn Hill also has historic importance. The name “Cairn” refers to stone mounds that were once associated with tribal burial markers, and the area was developed as an eco-tourism centre during the British period. Today, it is managed as a peaceful forest education and nature awareness destination by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.
