Kalikesam Maramalai Overview

Kalikesam Maramalai Trail is a scenic forest and plantation trek in Kanniyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. Starting from Kalikesam Eco Camp, the trail takes trekkers through plantation areas, lush forest interiors, evergreen dry deciduous forest sections, and old clove plantation surroundings. It is a refreshing route for travellers who want to experience the greener side of Kanniyakumari beyond its coastline.

The trail is rated moderate and covers around 12 km as a two-way route. With forest paths, plantation views, birdlife, and rich biodiversity, Kalikesam Maramalai is suitable for nature lovers, birdwatchers, photographers, students, and trekkers with basic fitness.

Day 1: Kalikesam to Maramalai Forest Trek

• Arrive at Kalikesam Eco Camp by the reporting time.
• Complete basic registration, ID verification, and trek formalities.
• Meet the trek guide or forest team and attend the safety briefing.
• Begin the guided trek from the Kalikesam plantation region.
• Walk through plantation surroundings and shaded forest interiors.
• Continue towards the old clove plantation area through the approved trail route.
• Take short breaks for water, photography, birdwatching, and forest interpretation as guided by the trek leader.
• Observe the natural surroundings carefully, including birds, native plants, forest sounds, and possible signs of wildlife movement.
• Take a refreshment break as per the trek arrangement.
• Begin the return walk under guide supervision.
• Return to Kalikesam Eco Camp and complete the trek.

The trek is not recommended for people with serious heart conditions, breathing difficulties, recent surgery, severe knee pain, major mobility issues, or low physical endurance.

Pregnant women should avoid this trek unless medically cleared.

Trekkers must follow the instructions of the guide or forest staff at all times.

Participants should not litter, feed wildlife, pluck plants, play loud music, smoke, consume alcohol, or move away from the group.
