About Trek

The trek begins from Karikayur village, located near Kotagiri in the Nilgiris. The trail passes through dry deciduous and mixed forest terrain with gentle ascents and descents before reaching the impressive Porivarai rock shelter. Porivarai is renowned for its prehistoric paintings that provide valuable insights into the lives and beliefs of ancient communities that once inhabited the region.

The paintings include depictions of animals, hunters, warriors, spirals, and symbolic motifs that reflect the social and cultural practices of prehistoric societies.
