About Trek

The Karaiyar - Moolakasam Trail is an easy one-way forest trek inside the Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve landscape. The trail begins from the Karaiyar side and moves through evergreen forest sections towards Moolakasam. Trekkers can experience shaded forest paths, intermittent water-spread areas, birdlife, butterflies and peaceful views of the surrounding Western Ghats.

This is not a high-altitude or strenuous mountain trek. It is better described as a guided nature and forest trail suitable for first-time trekkers and families with basic fitness. The official route highlights nearby attractions such as Thamirabarani River, Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Manjolai Hills, Agasthiyar Falls and Palaruvi Waterfalls.

Day 1: Karaiyar - Moolakasam Trek

8:00 AM – Report at Mundanthurai Range Office / Trek Reception Point
Arrive at the reception point, complete entry formalities and meet the trek guide.

8:15 AM – Transfer to Trek Starting Point
Proceed from the reception point to the Karaiyar trail starting area by arranged local transport.

8:30 AM – Safety Briefing and Trek Start
The guide explains the forest rules, walking discipline, route safety, wildlife precautions and trek instructions.

9:00 AM – Evergreen Forest Walk

Private cab or arranged trek transport is recommended because this is a forest-area trail and reporting must be done at the reception point before the trek.
