Overview

Cholan Tours presents Pearl of the Indian Ocean, a lovingly crafted 8-day Sri Lanka honeymoon package. It connects Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Mirissa, and Bentota, five destinations that together reveal Sri Lanka in its most beautiful, intimate, and romantic form.

Sri Lanka, the teardrop island of the Indian Ocean, is one of the world's finest honeymoon destinations, packing an astonishing diversity of landscapes, cultures, and experiences into an island smaller than the state of Tamil Nadu. Ancient Buddhist kingdoms, misty highland tea estates, tropical rainforests, colonial-era bungalows, and some of the Indian Ocean's most pristine beaches exist within a few hours of each other, making Sri Lanka honeymoon packages among the most rewarding value-for-experience offerings in all of Asia.

Colombo is home to waterfront promenades, world-class dining, and the sensory intensity of the Pettah Market. From Colombo, the scenic train journey or road proceeds to Kandy.

It is Sri Lanka's last royal capital and a UNESCO World Heritage City. This is where you reach the sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth Relic), one of Buddhism's most revered shrines.

The road climbs further into the highlands to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's hill country capital and most romantic destination, a charming colonial town at 1,868 metres surrounded by the world's finest tea estates. The journey then descends to the southern coast for the grand finale, a night at Mirissa for blue whale watching on the Indian Ocean, and a final night at Bentota, Sri Lanka's most beloved beach resort destination, where the Bentota River lagoon meets the golden beach in a setting of extraordinary natural beauty. Whether you are looking for Sri Lanka honeymoon packages from India, Nuwara Eliya tour packages, or a Colombo Kandy Nuwara Eliya honeymoon package, this Cholan Tours itinerary is the perfect choice.

Stroll through Viharamahadevi Park, Sri Lanka's oldest and largest public park, centred on a golden Buddha statue. Browse Barefoot Gallery on Galle Road, Sri Lanka's finest independent art and craft space. Evening sunset cocktails at Colombo's celebrated rooftop bars overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Day 3: Colombo → Kandy, Sacred Temple of the Tooth & Kandyan Dance+

Drive or take the scenic train 115 km to Kandy, Sri Lanka's last royal capital and a UNESCO World Heritage City set around the serene Kandy Lake. Attend the evening puja ceremony. Watch a traditional Kandyan cultural dance and fire-walking performance.

FAQs on Pearl of the Indian Ocean Sri Lanka Honeymoon Tour

What does this Cholan Tours Sri Lanka honeymoon package include?

7 nights accommodation (2 Colombo, 1 Kandy, 2 Nuwara Eliya, 1 Mirissa, 1 Bentota) on twin-sharing or double basis, daily breakfast and dinner, all inter-city transfers by private AC vehicle, Mirissa whale-watching boat excursion, Bentota River mangrove cruise, Kandyan cultural dance show, tea estate and factory visit, and Cholan Tours Tour Manager throughout. Flights, Sri Lanka visa, entry fees to Horton Plains and Temple of the Tooth, personal expenses, and lunches are not included unless stated.

What is the best time for a Sri Lanka honeymoon?

Sri Lanka's two monsoon seasons affect different coasts at different times, making it broadly a year-round destination. December to March is the finest time for the south and west coasts, Mirissa and Bentota are at their best. Whale watching at Mirissa peaks from November to April, with blue whale sightings most frequent in January to March. Nuwara Eliya and Kandy are beautiful year-round; April and August see local festivals. Avoid the south coast during May to September (south-west monsoon). Cholan Tours recommends December to March as the optimum window for this full circuit.

Is whale watching at Mirissa guaranteed?

Mirissa is one of the world's premier blue whale watching destinations, and blue whales are resident in the waters off the southern Sri Lanka coast throughout the year, with peak sightings from November to April. Sighting rates during peak season typically exceed 90 per cent. However, as with all wildlife experiences, sightings cannot be guaranteed. Sperm whales, Bryde's whales, spinner dolphins, and flying fish are commonly encountered even when blue whales are not sighted. Cholan Tours uses reputable, licensed whale-watching operators with experienced marine guides.

Can Cholan Tours arrange honeymoon-special amenities at the hotels?

Yes. Cholan Tours specialises in honeymoon packages and can arrange room decorations with flowers and petals, welcome champagne or sparkling grape juice, candlelight dinners on the beach or by the lagoon, couple spa treatments, private sunset cruises, and personalised honeymoon cakes at any or all destinations on this itinerary. Please inform our team of your honeymoon at the time of booking so all arrangements can be coordinated in advance.

Can this Sri Lanka honeymoon package be extended or customised?

Yes. Popular extensions include Sigiriya and Dambulla, the UNESCO Lion Rock fortress and Golden Cave Temple in Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle, best added between Colombo and Kandy. Yala National Park (for leopard safaris) and Unawatuna Beach can be added between Mirissa and Bentota. A Trincomalee extension on the east coast adds spectacular snorkelling and diving. Cholan Tours can build a 10 to 12-day extended Sri Lanka honeymoon itinerary incorporating all of these highlights on request
