The Shankaracharya Matha at Joshimath is a living centre of Vedantic study and worship, and a visit here is both humbling and uplifting.

Joshimath also serves as the winter seat of Lord Badri, the deity of Badrinath Temple. Lord Badri is brought here during winter when the Badrinath shrine closes due to heavy snowfall.

After a wholesome pahadi (Himalayan-style) breakfast, depart from Auli and make your way to Badrinath, one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage destinations of India and among the holiest temples in the Hindu tradition.

The 56-kilometre drive from Auli to Badrinath passes through breathtaking mountain landscapes along the banks of the Alaknanda River, with views of the Neelkanth peak (6,596 m), the 'Garhwal Queen', dominating the skyline.

Upon arrival at Badrinath, prepare yourself for a deeply moving temple darshan. The Badrinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Badri avatar.
