Alleppey Houseboats

Alleppey, also known as Alappuzha, is synonymous with the scenic backwaters, charming village life, and delicious local cuisine of Kerala. To truly experience these elements, travelling through the backwaters is essential, and a houseboat cruise offers the perfect way to do so.

Houseboats are large traditional wooden barges that have been converted into floating hotels equipped with modern comforts.

The houseboats have air-conditioned bedrooms, fashionably appointed bathrooms, modular kitchens, and large balconies from which to unwind in your surroundings. Some houseboats even accommodate five or more bedrooms, some have conference rooms, and some have two levels.

To fully appreciate the backwaters, you should take a cruise aboard an old-fashioned wooden houseboat, cruising along the bright sunshine and tranquil canals of Alleppey. As you cruise through the lagoons and canals, you will see beautiful rural villages, green rice paddies, and witness the people who live there.

Upon boarding the houseboat at 12:00 noon, guests are served a welcome drink such as tender coconut water or a soft drink to start the cruise refreshingly.

Lunch (1:00 PM – 2:00 PM)
Lunch features authentic local dishes including rice, sambar, vegetable thoran, pickle, pappad, fish fry, salad, curd, and dessert such as payasam or fresh fruits.

Evening Tea (3:30 PM – 4:30 PM)
Guests are served hot coffee or flavoured tea, along with traditional snacks such as banana fry, potato fry, or onion pakoda, while enjoying the cruise.

Dinner (8:00 PM – 9:00 PM)
The chef will discuss the dinner menu with guests. Typical dishes include chapati, rice, dal fry, chicken curry, and vegetable curry. Premium packages may include fish dishes, while luxury packages often include seafood options.

Breakfast (7:45 AM – 8:30 AM)
Breakfast options include both Continental and South Indian dishes. Continental options include bread, butter, jam, omelette, fruits, and tea or coffee. South Indian options may include Idly with sambar and chutney, Puttu with Kadala Curry, or Appam with egg curry.
