Overview

The Thondai Nadu & Cholan Nadu Divya Desam Temple Tour covers 64 sacred Vishnu temples spread across North and Central Tamil Nadu. These temples, revered in the 4,000 Divya Prabandham composed by the 12 Azhwars, stand as extraordinary architectural and spiritual marvels. Many are masterpieces created under the Pallava and Chola dynasties, reflecting over 1,500 years of devotion and temple arts.

This 11-day pilgrimage begins in Chennai, home to the ancient Parthasarathy Temple and the multifaceted Neervanna Perumal Temple of Thiruneermalai. The tour then journeys through the coastal heritage sites of Mahabalipuram, where Pallava-era shrines like Sthala Sayana Perumal showcase centuries-old rock-cut craftsmanship.

As the pilgrimage moves towards Kanchipuram, pilgrims visit several important Divya Desams, including Nilathingal Thundathan, Vaikuntha Perumal, Pavala Vannar, Pandava Thoodar, and the rare Aadhi Varaha Perumal Temple housed within Kamakshi Amman Temple. Kanchipuram alone features 14 Divya Desams, making it one of the most important spiritual hubs in Tamil Nadu.

The tour continues to Sholingur, home to the hilltop Yoga Narasimhar Temple, which is reached via 2,000 steps or a ropeway. Pilgrims also worship at Vijayaraghava Perumal and the famous Varadharaja Perumal Temple, one of the most significant Vishnu temples in South India.

The journey then enters the Chola heartland, visiting Thirukoilur, Chidambaram, Cuddalore, Sirkazhi, and the historic 12 Divya Desams of the region. Many of these temples have restricted priest timings, so the itinerary is carefully structured to ensure maximum accessibility.

The sacred towns of Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur reveal centuries-old temples such as Oppiliappan, Sarangapani, Thirunarayur, Thirukkanangudi, and Thirukannapuram, each with unique legends and exquisite architecture.

The final leg of the pilgrimage covers the Thanjavur and Trichy regions, including the holy Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple, the first of the 108 Divya Desams, often hailed as the spiritual capital of Vaishnavism. Temples like Kabisthalam, Appakudathan, Thiruvellarai, Anbil, and Uraiyur Nachiyar Koil add deep cultural and spiritual richness to the journey.

This 11-day pilgrimage is not merely a temple-hopping tour but a profound spiritual and cultural immersion into the land where the Azhwars once walked, chanted, and sang the glory of Lord Vishnu.
