Itinerary

This 7-night/8-day Bhutan tour covers Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, and the Haa Valley, offering cultural experiences, scenic Himalayan vistas, adventure activities, iconic dzongs, monasteries, and the iconic Tiger’s Nest hike.

Day 1: Arrival at Paro and drive to Thimphu

Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport, our tour representative will greet you and provide an overview of your Bhutan tour package. Drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, which is 55 km from Paro, about 1.5 hrs drive. En route, you are treated to some spectacular views of mighty mountains, shimmering rivers, and gorgeous valleys in Bhutan.

On arrival at Thimphu, start your Bhutan sightseeing with the Simply Bhutan Museum, where you are introduced to the rich history, vibrant culture and age old traditions of the country. Next up visit the Buddha Point popular for one of the biggest statues of the Buddha in the world, followed by a visit to the Tashichhoe Dzong, the seat of the king.

Overnight stay at Thimphu (altitude 2,320m)

Day 2: Thimphu+

In the morning, visit the National Library, Institute of Zorig Chusum and the Textile Museum. Then, drive to Sangaygang and walk through hundreds of prayer flags, taking in the beautiful view of the entire Thimphu valley. Visit Takin Reserve Center is on the way to Sangaygang and hosts the Takins (National animal of the country) which are found only in the Himalayas.

Then vist the Changangkha monastery and the Memorial Chorten, which are very important landmarks in the city. Conclude the day by visiting the Tashichhoe Dzong, which is the fortress that houses the office of the King.

Overnight at Thimphu.

Day 3: Thimphu- Punakha/Wangduephodrang+

After breakfast, start driving to Punakha, Bhutan’s first capital city. En-route stop at the Do-Chula Pass, which is at an altitude of 3088m. From here on a clear sunny day you would be able to see the breathtaking sight of the Himalayan Mountains lined up at a distance.

This particular site also has 108 stupas, also known as Druk Wangyel Chortens and Druk Wangyel Lhakhang. On reaching Punakha, check into the hotel and relax. Afternoon visit the famous Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful Dzongs and best Bhutan tourism places you will come across in Bhutan. This Dzong is also famous as the venue of the Royal Wedding of Fifth Druk Gyalpo. Later return back to hotel and relax.

Day 4: Punakha/ Wangduephodrang+

Today after your breakfast, enjoy an exciting short hike along the Mo Chhu River to the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten, a beautiful monument built by the fourth queen of Bhutan. Continue your Punakha sightseeing by making a visit to the famous Temple of Fertility or locally known as the Chimi Lhakhang. This temple was built in 1499 and is dedicated to the Divine Madman.

Couples who face infertility issues visit this temple of fertility and it is believed they all are blessed with a baby within a year time. It is definitely a must visit. Next up if you wish you have options for river rafting either in the Mo Chhu or Po Chhu rivers. Rafting in Punakha is one of the most sought after adventure activities in Bhutan. A thrilling and exciting activity which is equally enjoyed by kids and elders as well.

If you are trying rafting for the first time, it is recommended to choose Female River for rafting where the rapids are less whereas Male River rafting is for those who have done rafting before and never mind the rapids. Later in the evening return back to the hotel and relax.

Day 5: Punakha/Wangdue- Paro+

Today morning post breakfast visit the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang and Nunnery and drive back to Paro. En-route visit the Simthokha Dzong, the first Dzong built in 1627 by Zhabdrung Namgyal, one of the three most influential figures in the history of Bhutan.

Later check into your hotel in Paro and relax. Next up visit the Ta Dzong. Once it served as the watch tower for the Paro Rinpung Dzong and now converted to the National Museum. From the Ta Dzong walk down a few 100 meters to visit the Rinpung Dzong. The Rinpung Dzong is one of the best places to visit in Bhutan which is a perfect exemplar of traditional Bhutanese architecture. You also get a stunning view of the Paro Valley from the top of this Dzong.

Evening, explore the streets of Paro Town and check in to your hotel in Paro. Overnight at Paro.

Day 6: Paro Valley Exploration – Tigers Nest Hike+

Today you are in for some hiking adventure. Get indulged in Bhutan’s iconic Taktsang Hike or the Tiger Nest trek. This 4 to 5 hour [2 way] hike takes you to the Tiger Nest Monastery or the Taktsang Monastery. This monastery is one of the top destinations on a Bhutan tour and holds great spiritual significance for the Bhutanese people.

According to legend, Guru Rimpoche, who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, is believed to have meditated here for a long time. The Taktsang trek also exposes you to some of the breath-taking views of the surrounding hills. Later after the hike, either you can opt to take rest in hotel or visit the Kyichu Lhakhang, another ancient monastery. Later in the evening try some shopping if you wish as you stroll along the Paro Valley.

Overnight at Paro (Altitude 2,280m)

Day 7: Paro- Haa Valley excursion- Paro+

Today you are going to visit the beautiful Haa Valley. It was opened to public in 2002 is one among the best places to see in Bhutan. Still untouched, you would get to see the raw beauty of Bhutan at the Haa Valley. People still without any outside exposure live a simple and peaceful life here. After an early breakfast, drive to Haa via Chele La Pass.

Stop for a break at the Chele La Pass, the highest motorable pass in Bhutan at a height of 3998ms. Spend some time here and continue your drive to the Haa Valley. On reaching first up visit the Lhakhang Karpo, also known as the White temple. Later drive to the Katsho Village and visit the Katso Lhakhang. Post lunch explore the hidden beautiful villages of Haa.

Spend some quality time admiring the beauty of Mother Nature at this part of the World. Evening drive back to Paro and relax at your hotel. Overnight in Paro.

Day 8: Bhutan Departure+
