About Arulmigu Subramania Swamy Temple

Unlike the other abodes of Lord Murugan, this is the only abode which is seated on land and beside the sea. The lovely breeze from the sea and the melodious song from the temple coalesce in the air of Tiruchendur, filling every heart with divinity. This ancient temple is located at a distance of 40km from Tuticorin.

Saga Behind This Temple:

The legend has it that this is the place where Lord Muruga annihilated the villainous demon Soorapadman and later reprieved him on the sixth day from the new moon. This day is hailed as “Kantha Sasti” and is celebrated in grandeur.

Speciality:

This temple has an aperture from where we can hear the OM vibration, and the source of the sound is a mystery until now. This temple is also known for its meticulously done architecture.

Other Features:

Pooja: Here, the lord is offered abisheka nine times in a day. During this abhisheka, curd rice, sweet Pongal, payasam, grains, dal and many more are also offered to the lord and are distributed to the poor people after the rituals

Prayer: People suffering from obstacles in marriage and longing for a child boon are delivered from their sins and sorrows if they visit Lord Muruga, who graces along with his spouse in the shrine of Tiruchendur.

• Skanda Sasti Festival: Celebrated during October and November, the festival celebrates the victory of Lord Murugan over the demon Surapadman.

• Masi Festival: The 12-day festival involves a float festival, along with musical performances and daily rituals.

This place is near Tuticorin. It can be reached from all parts of Tamil Nadu.

• Train: The nearest railway station is in Tuticorin, from where you have to take a bus to reach the temple.
