Iconic Havelis of Mandawa 

Binsidhar Newatia Haveli 

Perched prominently along Mandawa's main bazaar, the Binsidhar Newatia Haveli is a delightful blend of heritage and everyday life. Although part of the building now houses a functioning bank, visitors are welcome to wander and admire its striking frescoes.

The eastern façade is especially intriguing, decorated with whimsical and unusual murals, from a European lady in a car to a boy speaking on a telephone and even early aeroplane motifs. These unique depictions reflect the eclectic tastes of its original owners and the cultural influences that washed through the region in the early 20th century.

Chokhani Double Haveli

One of Mandawa's grandest residences, the Chokhani Double Haveli, was constructed in two wings to accommodate the households of two brothers from the prosperous Chokhani merchant family. 

Its façade, framed by ornate archways and elaborate fresco work, displays scenes ranging from traditional Rajasthani motifs (peacocks and floral arabesques) to portraits of Rajput warriors and British-era figures. The sheer scale of this double mansion and the vibrancy of its painted stories make it an essential stop on any heritage walk through Mandawa's streets.

Murmuria Haveli

Dating back to the 1930s, Murmuria Haveli is a fascinating testament to the artistic evolution of the Shekhawati region. Created by a renowned local painter, its frescoes are remarkable for blending indigenous themes with early-modern influences.

Look closely, and you'll spot striking depictions of trains at a crossing, scenes from Venice, portraits of George V, and even Jawaharlal Nehru astride a horse bearing the national flag.

This interplay of East and West, juxtaposed with traditional architectural features such as carved jharokhas and open courtyards, makes Murmuria a particularly memorable example of Mandawa's open-air art gallery.
