About Kaup Beach

The Kapu beach is also among the hidden gems of the state and offers you a tranquil ambience, combined with its sparse crowds and expansive waters, which creates a sense of time standing still. While Kapu Beach houses all the usual seaside activities, it is particularly famous for its breathtaking sunsets and its iconic lighthouse. You can also time your visit to coincide with dusk to experience the spectacular sight of the sun dipping below the horizon, which bathes everything in a golden hue. 

The Kapu Beach also features an iconic and historic lighthouse, which was built in 1901. The lighthouse is also open to visitors daily, from 4 PM to 6 PM, and it offers you a mesmerising panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and its surging waves from the top. Situated on a rocky outcrop of the beach, the lighthouse is accessible via steep, spiral 100-step staircases.

From the beach, you can also visit Udupi, a famous spiritual city in Karnataka. The city offers various key temples and cultural sites, like the iconic 13th-century Sri Krishna Temple, Saint Sri Madhwacharya, and Anantheshwara Temple. The city also offers some of the delicious and savoury South-Indian cuisines, like Idli, Dosa, and Gashi, among others.

• Air : The nearest airport to the Kapu Beach is in Mangalore, which is 40 km away. From there, you can easily hire a taxi to Kapu Beach.
• Train : The closest railway station is in Udupi, which is located 18 km from Kapu Beach.
• Road : Kapu Beach is well-connected by road to major cities, like Udupi, Mangalore, and Bengaluru. Visitors often prefer visiting the beach from Bengaluru to enjoy the picturesque route adorned with nature’s beauty.
