There are more than 200 countries in the world, and each has its own beauty, making them all unique and worth exploring. Sri Lanka is one of those countries that offers a lot to tourists. The serene and scenic views, the significance of simple rituals, and the delicious cuisine — it can steal anyone’s heart.

So, if you are planning a trip to Sri Lanka, here are our two cents on this beautiful country that offers tourists an experience they will remember for life.

The Nature

Sri Lanka, an island surrounded by different bodies of water, is a sub-tropical country, which makes it one of the must-visit tourist destinations for nature lovers and people seeking peace and quiet away from the bustling city lives. You can visit places like Sinharja Forest Reserve – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Yala National Park, Mirissa, and Bentota to reconnect with nature.

Sinharja Forest Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, widely known for its dense rainforests. Sri Lanka is also home to Horton Plains National Park, Adam’s Peak, and Nuwara Eliya – places that can offer you some repose and quiet.

The Culture

Sri Lanka has been a culturally rich country for centuries, as it is of great significance in the Ramayana, a Hindu epic. There are three religions that are presently followed in abundance in Sri Lanka — Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam.

The streets of Sri Lanka are bejewelled with rich culture, from woven handicraft to mouth-watering cuisine — everything represents the diverse culture of Sri Lanka. The best time to visit Sri Lanka to experience the vivid colours of the country is during the festival season.

You can visit Sri Lanka in July to take part in a 10-day celebration held, called Kandy Esala Perahera.

The Cuisine

Heavily featuring the local crops, Sri Lankan cuisine is a magical blend of creativity and tradition. Sri Lankan cuisine can be defined by the expression “Flavour lies in simplicity”. The cuisine has simple yet rich flavours that will make you travel back to Sri Lanka just for the taste.

The national dish of Sri Lanka is rice and curry, as rice is abundant in quantity in Sri Lanka. We suggest you explore Sri Lanka locally to find the best flavours, and try out some dishes like Kiribath, Lamprais, Kottu Roti, String Hoppers, Parippu, and Pol Sambol.
