Munnar:

Tired of being in hot and sunny weather, I wish to escape from Lord Surya and rest in a chill and serene climate in nature’s bed. Here is your desired getaway from your routine, chaotic environment. Drive through the lush green environment in the hilly meadows of the Western Ghats. You can walk through the mist and fog and reach the second-highest peak of the Tiger Resemblance Hills ‘Meesapulli Mala after Anamudi in Kerala. Spend your night in Kerala’s natural tranquillity and camp there to explore the beauty of God’s own country. A lot of wildlife reserves live in the dense arena of the Western Ghats, specifically Eravikulam National Park, which is an indispensable place for wildlife admirers. Munnar is yet another major hub of tea plantations in South India. Taste the tea prepared from fresh tea leaves of Munnar. Experience the chill climate in your sunburned skin in the months of summer.

Places to visit: Eravikulam National Park, Kollukkumallay Tea Estate, Kundala Lake, Mettupatty Dam

Thekkady:

Ever thought about living a gadget-free and back to the Stone Age life for at least one day? Here is your destination, Thekkady, which is the best place to see the real-life wildlife without having a screen between you and wild animals. You can just have a nature walking tour on some parts of the Park where you can literally see a herd of elephants roaming close to you with a couple of large white ivory tusks from their trunks. It encompasses several activities like boating, jungle safari, spice plantation and elephant ride in Periyar National Park.

Places to visit: Mangla Devi Temple, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Abraham’s spice garden, Murikkady, Kalari centre, Chellakovil, Pandikuzhi and Periyar lake for boating.

Ooty

Ooty, Udagamandalam, Nilgiris – This place has multiple names but is aptly referred to as “Queen of the Hills”. Yet another hilly hideaway this summer. Foggy vision is still possible even during summer in Ooty. Once you reach Dodabetta peak, you can see the plains of Coimbatore and the Mysore plateau if nature cooperates. After that, you can visit the Botanical Garden, which is a paradise if you are a horticulture lover. You can see varieties of flora in Ooty, ranging from unique types of roses, imported shrubs and years-old trees, or you can just sit in the green lawn carpet and experience the beauty of nature. Coonoor is yet another best destination to feel a chill climate on the dermal layer of your body.

Places to visit: Mountain railway journey through toy train, Botanical garden, Dodabetta peak, Pykara waterfalls, Dodabetta tea factory

Kodaikanal

The word Kodaikanal is the amalgamation of two words in the Tamil language, wherein ‘Kodai’ means summer and ‘kanal’ means ‘to see’. When we merge these words, it will be like ‘a place to see in summer’. I would like to rephrase this to ‘MUST visit place in summer’. It has also been referred to as ‘Princess of Hills’. The climate of Kodai doesn’t exceed 20 °C, making it a perfect destination for summer. In the centre of the city, there lies a man-made lake with a perimeter of 5 km, wherein you can do a boat ride with your loved ones. If your interest is to be away from the crowd and sit and relax, Kodai also has exotic places like that, Poombarai. But it is a little far from Kodaikanal; you have to travel 20 km from the bustle and hustle of Kodai. The way from Kodai to Poombarai is spell-binding. I assure you that you will love the journey. Once you reach the top of the hill, you can see a colourful village from there amidst the giant mountains of the Western Ghats. No hustle and bustle! No crowd! Simply peace!!

Places to visit: Silver cascade falls, Bryant park, Kodaikanal lake, Coaker’s walk, Bear shola falls, Guna caves, Pillar rock, Poombarai and pine forest

Alleppey

Alleppey had become a synonym for backwaters and houseboats. Explore the city by sailing in the boats of Kerala. Wish to visit Venice- the floating city, but can’t afford the travel, here is the destination for you in India itself. Kerala is a natural paradise destination. Boating is the major transportation in Alleppey, where you can see school students and lungi-clad men who need to ply around the city. Spend your night at the houseboats of Kerala to experience a floating night. Sleep and dream in the backwaters of Kerala. Explore the serene view of the backwaters in Kerala. Taste the Kerala fame Puttu and Kadala Curry, which gives a mouth-licking taste. This taste will remain in your mouth until you eat other foods. This city is also famous for traditional old Ayurveda treatments.

Places to visit: Night at houseboat, Alappuzha beach, Vembanad, Marari beach, Pathiramanal, lighthouse, Kuttanad

Kumarakom:

Pure nature’s tranquillity can be seen in abundance in Kerala. Yet another Backwater destination in Kerala. Put your hectic life on hold and enjoy the serene view of calm and steady backwaters at Kumarakom. You have multiple homestay options in Kumarakom, which will directly depict the main element of Kerala culture, which is hospitality. Tourism in Kumarakom is responsible; the usage of non-biodegradable things is not appreciated. We should take the responsibility to dispose of it properly if we are using it. Food in Kerala has a rich aroma of coconut in every dish you taste. Stay in the houseboats of Kumarakom at night to have a calm and relaxed night experience.

Places to visit: Kumarakom bird sanctuary, Aruvikkuzhi waterfall, Kumarakom beach and backwaters.
