Calico Museum of Textiles

One of the finest collections of Textiles and other artefacts are available in the Calico Museum of Textiles in Ahmedabad, the “Must to visit” location while planning your tour to Gujarat. The Museum houses variety of textiles used from the ancient times and rare collection of idols and precious artefacts. You can know more about the evolution of Indian Textile Industry over the period.

What to see in Calico Museum:

Varied types of textiles used in the Mughal courts, Royal costumes, Regional Embroideries, textiles exclusively for exports to other countries, Tie dyed costumes are exhibited in Calico Museum. Besides these, numerous idols representing South India are show cased, an amazing collection to explore.

How to Reach Calico Museum?

Calico Museum is located very near to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at Ahmedabad, which can be easily accessed.

Best time to visit Calico Museum:

Between October and March, it is an ideal choice to visit Gujarat to enjoy the most comfortable climate. It is also recommended to plan your visits between July and September, the monsoon season in Gujarat.

Entry Timings:

The Guided tour is between 10.30 AM and 1.00 PM except on Wednesdays and listed holidays.

Note:

The guided tour restricts the number of participants to 20

Children below 10 years are not allowed

Children between 10 and 15 years are allowed only if accompanied by parent or guardian.

Photography and videography are not allowed inside the museum

The entire collections are under dim lights to preserve them from deteriorating. So, the visitors need to be patient until their eyes get adjusted to the lighting

The Museum is set up on different floors with different surface levels.

Keep your baggages and cell phones in your vehicles or at cloak room near the entrance.

Kite Museum

The kite museum at Ahmedabad houses large collection of various types of kites and papers exhibited with suitable illustrations and photographs. The design of the building is equally mesmerizing.

What to see in Kite Museum?

Enjoy the diversified collection of kites and the numerous variety of papers with different textures. Explore about the kites with the illustrations accompanied by beautiful paintings. The highlighted attractions of this kite museum are 16 feet long kite depicting Garba dance,kites with mirror work, Japanese kites and Radha Krishna kites.

How To Reach?

The Kite museum of Ahmedabad is in the Sanskar Kender, Paldi. You can reach the place in less than half an hour from Ahmedabad airport.

Musuems in Junagadh

Junagadh region in Gujarat is home for many wonderful museums.The archaeological museum in Gujarat is so prominent among the travelers that it houses the ancient collections of the remnants from the Somnath temple. Durbar Hall Museum and the natural museum in Sakkarbaug are the interesting locations to explore.

What to see in and around Junagadh?

Know about the history of Somnath temple from its remains in the Archaological museum. Marvel the grandeur of the Durbar Hall Museum which was once the court hall of the Nawabs. The museum is located near the entrance of the fort, housed inside the Royal palace.

How to reach the museums?

Somnath Archeological museum is at a distance of 79 kms from Junagadh. The Durbar Museum is inside the Junagadh Fort itself.

Best Time to visit:

Gujarat gives you the pleasant experiences during October to March. The monsoon season is equally good to visit between July and September.

Entry Timings:

Somnath Archaeological Museum is open to public from 9.00 AM to 12.15 PM and 2.30 PM to 6.00 PM.

Durbar Hall Museum is open from 9.00 AM to 12.30 PM and 3.00 PM to 6.00 PM. Please note the Durbar Hall Museum is closed on Wednesdays, 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month.
