The Karapuzha Dam is one such attraction in Wayanad which is hailed as one of the biggest earth dams in India. The <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Karapuzha Dam<\/a><\/strong>, which is built across the <strong>Karapuzha River<\/strong> that forms a tributary of the <strong>Kabini River,<\/strong> is fringed by lush greenery and gorgeous hills. The construction works of the Karapuzha Dam were started in the year 1977, and it took nearly 27 years to complete the Dam, which was completed in the year <strong>2004<\/strong>. Karapuzha Dam was mainly built for irrigation purpose but it also plays an important role in power generation too.<img class=\"\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Dam site and the area surrounding it are so captivating that it attracts swarms of tourists and offers a unique opportunity to sport a number of aquatic birds. The <strong>Tourism Department of Kerala<\/strong> made the Dam site more appealing to the tourists by constructing a beautiful aquarium and they have also started boating as well as canoeing facilities at the spot. The place also offers the opportunity for nature walks which attracts a lot of nature lovers to this beautiful location. The dam is open throughout the year and best visited after the Sun is past the golden hours. Low light conditions are more prone in this cloud dangling atmosphere where mist might ruin the show.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During summer, this won\u2019t be a problem for spotting rare species of birds. The sound of the silently gushing waters of Karapuzha will suffice the soul of the elderly wanderers while <strong>mountain biking<\/strong>, <strong>speed boating<\/strong>, and <strong>tree houses <\/strong>supply the necessary adventure options for the young people. Various <strong>aquatic birds <\/strong>make continuous squelching sounds in rhythm with the serene atmosphere.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wayanad is nestled in between three prominent towns, <strong>Sultan Bathery<\/strong> in East, <strong>Kalpetta<\/strong> in South, and <strong>Mananthavady<\/strong> in Northeast, Wayanad is a haven for avian life and <strong>wildlife<\/strong>. The <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary<\/a><\/strong> is 15 km away from <a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\"><strong>Kalpetta<\/strong><\/a> where travelers can spot elephants and deers. The most isolated of the three is Mananthavady where <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Thirunelli Temple<\/a> <\/strong>is open for the Hindu Population. Sultan Bathery has one precious <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Jain Temple<\/a> <\/strong>while best hotels are there in this place and <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Kalpetta<\/a><\/strong>. In <strong>Nenmeni <\/strong>25 km from Kalpetta, there are <strong>Neolithic petroglyphs <\/strong>left in caves for the world to know about the stature of early human beings. Who knows they might not also be Homo Sapiens but other similar species. <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Edakkal Caves<\/a> <\/strong>is the place you should go for admiring the communication, carving, and knowledge of our ancestors. You\u2019ll experience breathtaking visuals of Wayanad from Edakkal Caves which was found in 1890 by Fred Fawcett.<img class=\"\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There is<strong> Pookot Lake<\/strong> and <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Banasura Sagar Dam<\/a><\/strong>, the <strong>largest earth dam <\/strong>in <strong>India <\/strong>and second largest in Asia near Kalpetta. Pookot Lake <strong>boating <\/strong>is highly recommended as the waterbody is clean and maintained well. A noteworthy picnic spot for the locals. While <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Meenmutty<\/a>, <a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Soochipara<\/a>, and Karalad<\/strong> are precious <strong>waterfalls <\/strong>Wayanad possess for a toxicity clearing bath. The <strong><a target=\"\" rel=\"\" aria-label=\"\">Chembra Peak<\/a> Trek <\/strong>is for moderate to experienced trekkers as the ascend is difficult for beginners.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>For Soulful Nature Walks &#8211; Karapuzha Dam<\/strong><img class=\"\" alt=\"\" \/><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Photographers <\/strong>make use of the <strong>natural tint <\/strong>and aura of the dam to snap unadulterated and organically saturated photographs.
