“According to\u00a0‘Ease of Living Index 2020’ (EoLI)<\/strong>, released by the Union Housing and Urban Development Ministry<\/strong>,\u00a0Bengaluru<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0emerged as the “most liveable city in India”<\/strong>\u00a0among the 49 cities in the ‘million-plus population’ category as well as\u00a0Shimla<\/strong>, among the 62 cities with ‘less than a million population’.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

The Ease of Living Index (<\/strong>EoLI<\/strong>)<\/strong> is a framework to measure the improved wellbeing of citizens and hence to assess improvement in liveability. This index was first launched in the year 2018 and was based on indicators across 15 evaluation criteria.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

The 2020 Ease of Living Index<\/strong> saw the participation of 111 Indian cities across the country that was carried out last year just before the lockdown. Cities were slotted into two categories- those with\u00a0‘million-plus population’<\/strong>\u00a0and those with a population\u00a0‘less than a million’<\/strong>. The Index evaluated the wellbeing of the citizens in the surveyed cities according to different criteria comprising four pillars –\u00a0quality of life, sustainability, economic ability, and citizen\u2019s perception survey<\/strong>\u00a0– which were split into 14 categories and 49 indicators.\"\"<\/p>\r\n

    Among the 49 cities ranked on the livability index in the\u00a0”million-plus population”<\/strong>\u00a0category, the tech-city of India,\u00a0Bengaluru<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0tops the list pushing the earlier top ranker\u00a0Pune<\/strong>\u00a0to the second position with Srinagar<\/strong> at the bottom and the capital city, Delhi<\/strong> at the 13th spot.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

    According to the ‘Quality of Life<\/strong>‘ parameter under this category,\u00a0Chennai<\/a>,<\/strong> Coimbatore<\/a>,<\/strong> and Navi Mumbai<\/strong> rank first, second, and third positions. And as per the\u00a0‘Economic Ability’<\/strong> pillar, Bengaluru<\/a><\/strong>, Delhi,<\/strong> and Pune<\/strong>\u00a0are the top rankers.<\/p>\r\n

      Among the 62 cities with ‘less than a million population’<\/strong>, the erstwhile summer capital of India, Shimla<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0topped the list of\u00a0‘Ease of Living Index 2020’<\/strong>\u00a0followed by Bhubaneswar<\/strong> and Silvassa<\/strong> while Muzaffarpur<\/strong>\u00a0figured at the bottom of the livability index.<\/p>\r\n
